How our shuttle works
Step 1: Book your Shuttle
Reserve your spot on the shuttle to access some of the most scenic sections of the George S. Mickelson Trail.
- Available Thursday–Sunday
- Designed for full-day ride experiences
- Group shuttle with limited seating (12 max)
Northern Trailheads include: Deadwood, Englewood, Dumont, Rochford & Mystic
Step 2: Choose your Bike
(during booking)
After selecting your shuttle, you’ll be prompted to choose your bike rental as part of the same booking flow—quick and seamless.
- Select from standard bikes or e-bikes
- One bike per rider
- Rentals include helmet, rear rack, panniers & trail pass
Already have your own bike? You can still book the shuttle—just select the “bring your own bike” option during checkout.
Step 3: Check-In & Departure
Plan to meet at your scheduled time—the shuttle departs 30 minutes later. During that window, we’ll:
- Check everyone in
- Fit bikes and go over the operation
- Load bikes onto the shuttle
- Share route tips and trail highlights
Timing:
Meet at 8:30 AM → Depart at 9:00 AM
- If peak summer temperatures require an earlier start, notification will be sent a couple of days in advance.
- After Labor Day, the start time shifts to 9:00 AM to accommodate cooler Fall temperatures.
Step 4: Ride the Trail
We’ll drop the group at the furthest north trailhead, then make stops heading south—so you can ride back toward Hill City.
Expect:
- Smooth crushed-limestone surface
- Gradual downhill sections
- Scenic tunnels, trestles, and forest views
- A ride that’s great for a wide range of abilities
Ride as far (or as casually) as you’d like—your finish is right back at the shop.

Trail Conditions & Scenery
The Mickelson Trail offers a unique blend of stunning landscapes, rock-carved tunnels, and well-maintained paths, perfect for riders of all skill levels. As you traverse the trail, expect to encounter diverse scenery, including lush forests, rolling hills, and picturesque views of the Black Hills. The trail is primarily gravel, providing a smooth ride for both e-bikes and traditional bicycles. Be prepared for varying trail conditions depending on the season, with spring and summer offering vibrant greenery and fall showcasing beautiful foliage. Whether you're looking for a leisurely ride or a more challenging adventure, the Mickelson Trail has something for everyone.
